Grand Lido Braco

20th of April 2004 to 5th of May 2004

Costas and Anastasia

We greatly enjoyed our recent trip. This was our third two-week visit.

Braco is a great property that is somewhat polarised into two and possibly three distinct resorts, which are held together by the village square. While it is managing at the moment to appeal to such a diverse audience, competition will in time require it to redefine its market and cater to its needs.

The new General Manager Mr. Ron Drogmeyer has instigated a programme of improvements and we look with interest as to the direction he takes the resort. We are pleased with the changes made so far and especially, welcome the changes to the main bar and introduction of the Cuban string trio.

The absolute highlight of this trip was the time spent at the local school. Meeting the children and their teachers was magical. You and the group have achieved much. Well done.

Braco for us is all about relaxation, good weather, exceptional service from some of the friendliest people that you could hope to meet, and meeting old and new friends. On this basis this holiday almost scores a perfect 10.

We were especially lucky to be there at the same time as the Braco Champagne, and Braco Dogs groups.

A few of our suggested improvements are as follows:

Attract more European visitors to bridge the gap between the two sides.

Hold candle light dinners in the gardens.

Expand the concept of the returnee’s party into a more regular pre-dinner cocktail party (with a later start).

Hold a street carnival party after all the dining is complete, say ten pm to midnight – music, dancing, daring dressing, streamers and a few drinks.

Expand the menu at La Pasta to include risotto dishes and chef prepared salads.

Introduce more musical performances – singer for the piano bar pre-dinner/late drinks, string trio to play during dinner at the fountain, steel band to play on beach at night, and simple beach reggae party – DJ plus a few tins of beer in a drum filled with ice.

Grounds

The grounds are beautiful and immaculately maintained. There can be no better way to start the day than a stroll around the grounds enjoying the sights, sounds and fragrance of this beautiful garden. We especially enjoyed the early morning power walks.

Rooms

The rooms while a little tired, are fully functional, well serviced and comfortable. To us at Braco the room is where we shower and sleep. We have stayed and enjoyed some of the finest hotels around the world. While the extra luxuries are nice it must be remembered that they cost money to provide and would in our opinion not in anyway add to the enjoyment of this holiday. We never used room service, preferring to take early and late drinks at the beach bar.

Journey

While the road is in places rough, we have never experienced any problems and arrived safely in about an hour.

Food

The team of chef’s at Braco are a dedicated and talented group who are more than capable of delivering world-class cuisine. Excellent ingredients are used and the food is well presented. While Super Clubs clearly know their target audience, we would appreciate a change of emphasis from blandish quantity (with a ridiculously high number of choices at most events), to a more discerning and sophisticated menu. Prepared to order stations, such as freshly grilled fish at lunch would be welcomed.

Drinks

The choice and service was always top notch. There was a tendency for almost all to drink too much and a few to drink them selves into a stupor. On a personal note the sight of people using giant thermal mugs at night, is as elegant to our eyes as a drunk drinking form a bottle in a brown paper bag.

Beach/pools

Good sun beds, attentive staff, and plenty of towels. More sun umbrellas to hand out to guests are required. This should reduce the need to stake out a spot.

Entertainments

A good range but mainly aimed at the North American market. The entertainment staffs are talented and very hard working. The programme is in need of new ideas, having changed little over the period we have been visiting.

Spa/Gym/Sports

We enjoyed excellent treatments at the spa. Both the guest and resident instructors are great – pack your trainers.
