GLB, May 12 - 17
James and Jennifer
Well, here’s our trip report finally! It has taken us a full week to get back out of the "Jamaica State of Mind!" Jennifer and I took our first trip to GLB the week of May 12th and were married at the gazebo on May 15th (4 years from the day we met). It was a first of many things for us…our first trip out of the country together, both our first marriage (hopefully our last!), and our first time to be A/N! The trip was perfect, the marriage was wonderful (Thanks Bob and Martha for being there!), and the A/N experience was spectacular!
We were both very nervous about having a room on the A/N side of GLB. We are both large folks and thought we might not fit in with all the "sexy" people in the A/N side. Jen and I posted a few questions to this forum and received some excellent advice…thanks! Even with all the assurances from everyone, we were still not sure if we would be able to go nude in public. Well…two hours after our arrival and a couple of rum punches, we both said "What the heck!" and stripped down and took the plunge so to speak.
What we found on the A/N side was an abundance of staff and guests that were as friendly as any we have ever experienced! Merl and Denton were quick to learn our names and our favorite drinks (Isn’t the Dirty Banana wonderful!?!?). We met several great couples at the bar and before we knew it we were playing dominoes, bingo, and trivia. I even got into several great games of pool volleyball! After spending a few hours in the A/N side, we couldn’t imagine spending any time at GLB on the prude side!
The resort itself was as close to perfect as we’ve experienced. We were met with cool towels and rum punch at the service desk (very welcome after the exciting bus ride!) The A/N jr. suite was very clean and ready when we checked in at 1:00. The view was spectacular and the fridge was stocked with cold beverages. The A/C worked great except for a few hours on our last day when the fuse blew and several rooms were without air. They fixed the fuse and the rooms cooled back off quickly. Room service was always quick and the food was always tasty, but the quantities varied from day to day. The lamb chops were amazing!
We dined at all of the restaurants while we were there. Our favorite dinner was at the Japanese restaurant where we had an excellent sushi meal prepared by a very friendly chef. The meal was delicious and very beautiful! Nanny’s Jerk Pit was great…the jerk pork sandwiches and the curry goat were excellent! La Pasta had an excellent selection and great service. The desert place next door had the best macaroons ever! Victoria’s Market had a terrific breakfast buffet with great fresh fruit and hot dishes of all kinds. I really enjoyed the calalloo greens and the smoked marlin. We had excellent service each morning with plenty of coffee, juices, and water. The French restaurant was nice, but not as great as we expected. The lemongrass Crème Brule was the highlight of the meal!
We spent most evenings in the small hot tub with a bottle of champagne (the large hot tub was not heating well). We didn’t swim in the evenings because they cleaned the pool at 7:00 and the water was a bit strong with chemicals until the next morning.
Our wedding went off without a hitch (pun intended!). The coordinators were very friendly and walked us through all the details. The minister was very professional and gave a nice, short service. The photographer did good work, but was not very good at communicating what poses he wanted us to do. The entire wedding was as stress free as a wedding could possibly be…we were totally focused on each other and not worried about anything. As soon as the wedding was over and the pictures were taken…we QUICKLY got naked and hit the A/N pool! Life is sweet!
Our stay was all too short and we are counting the days (and our pennies) until we can return. We’ll post up some pictures of our trip soon!
